A rescuer shared an emotional message after the sad loss of Rex, a brave dog who participated in rescue efforts during the earthquake on September 19, 2017, in Mexico City. Salvador Montes de Oca confirmed Rex's passing, who suffered from a degenerative joint disease that, after three years, limited his mobility.
"Since he was 8 years old, he was diagnosed with a degenerative joint disease; the last year was very difficult for him, we did everything to improve his quality of life," Salvador shared in a Facebook message. "Yesterday afternoon, he could no longer stand up. I will look for you, my friend! Mission accomplished!" concluded the emotional message in honor of the faithful companion.
Rex, the heroic canine who left an indelible mark on many hearts, had been fundamental in the rescue efforts following that fateful day when thousands of lives were changed in Mexico. Despite the tragedy, Mexicans came together to support those affected, while rescuers, including four-legged heroes like Frida and Rex, worked hard to save lives.
Rex's loss is strongly felt in the community that recognizes his bravery and dedication during critical moments. His comforting presence not only helped in the rescue efforts, but also provided motivation and strength to those who needed it the most. Although saying goodbye is not easy, it is recognized that it was the best for the brave Rex, who lived 14 years full of adventures and left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
May the memory of Rex, the strong, crazy, and adventurous dog, continue to illuminate the hearts of those who will remember him with affection and gratitude for his immense sacrifice and unconditional love.
